Every woman who is a member of an Evangelical Lutheran Church is also a member of the worldwide WELCA organization and her local church group. It is the mission of WELCA “to mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.” Through numerous programs, educational materials and opportunities for service, WELCA’s stated purpose is to help women “grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.”

At St. Andrew, WELCA women come together for Bible study, fellowship, and to share their God-given talents in ways that benefit our community and the world at large. Their projects include making prayer shawls to give comfort to anyone who is in need of prayers and support, knitting squares for the Blue Star Mothers who assemble them into afghans for wounded service men, and supporting New Life Center for teen age girls.
WELCA’s best known and most ambitious project is its Annual Country Bazaar and Auction. Proceeds from the bazaar help meet special congregation needs and are used to provide scholarships to help high school graduates with college expenses.WELCA
